Rheology and structural build-up of sodium silicate- and sodium hydroxide-activated GGBFS mixtures

Alkali-activated slag cements (AAS) are considered as an alternative to portland cement (PC) in many studies. A significant number of studies have focused on their mechanical and durability properties, but very few concentrated rheological behavior. In this study, the effects sodium silicate hydroxide properties structural build-up alkali-activated GGBFS mixtures been investigated. The silicate-activated exhibited a lower yield stress higher plastic viscosity than hydroxide-activated mixtures. small-amplitude oscillatory shear (SAOS) tests indicated negligible colloidal interaction between particles system; therefore, early increase structuration was associated with formation reaction products due dissolved calcium ions silicates originated from activator solution. On other hand, stiffness system were attributed well-percolated network.
